VALVE ADJUSTMENT

Learn to check and adjust your valve clearances during this hands-on clinic, where each student will park their motorcycle on a lift and be provided with all the tools necessary to check and adjust their own valves. An instructor will be on hand at all times to help.

Note: Depending on your bike, this can be a long day, but well worth it to learn to check and adjust your valve clearances. Lunch is provided.

The first part of the day will involve removing fairings, fuel tank, radiator, and/or any other components to allow removal of the valve covers. During this time, fans will be used to cool the motorcycle engines to ambient temperature for a valve adjustment.

Then each student will check valve clearances on their bike (with the help of a service manual, and instructor), and adjust them if needed. The later part of the day will consist of putting everything back together properly and finishing with a carb or throttle body sync to complete the service.

Valve shims are sold here at the shop if needed. If you want to replace your valve cover gaskets, you will need to purchase these separately and bring them to the clinic. It’s a good idea to also replace your spark plugs and air filter when you adjust your valves. If you're also due for an oil change, you may perform this during the clinic as well. Contact us if you'd like Moto Shop to order parts for you. We may have oil, filter and spark plugs for you in stock.
